DevPass ("DevPass", "we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy.
This Privacy Policy explains how DevPass handles information in connection with the DevPass Chrome Extension.
1. Overview
DevPass is a local-first Chrome Extension designed to help developers and QA professionals manage credentials across development environments.
DevPass does not operate a backend server for credential storage and does not transmit user credentials externally.
2. Information We Handle
DevPass handles the following information solely to provide its core functionality:
- Usernames
- Passwords
- Credential metadata (e.g., environment labels, notes, URLs)
This information is entered directly by the user.
3. Local Storage and Encryption
All credentials and vault data:
- Are stored locally within the user's browser using IndexedDB
- Are encrypted using the Web Crypto API
- Are protected by a master password defined by the user
DevPass does not have access to your credentials.
The master password never leaves your device.
4. Data Transmission
DevPass does NOT:
- Transmit credential data to external servers
- Sync data to cloud services
- Share data with third parties
- Sell user data
- Use analytics or tracking tools
All processing occurs locally within your browser.
5. Permissions
DevPass may request the following browser permissions:
- Storage: To store encrypted vault data locally
- Clipboard: To allow user-initiated copy functionality
- Host permissions: To enable manual autofill on user-requested pages
These permissions are used strictly to provide the extension's intended functionality.
6. Data Retention
Because all data is stored locally:
- Users may delete their vault at any time
- Uninstalling the extension removes stored data from the browser
DevPass does not retain any user data externally.
7. Security
DevPass uses industry-standard cryptographic practices, including:
- PBKDF2 key derivation
- AES-GCM encryption
- Browser-native Web Crypto API
However, users are responsible for safeguarding their master password.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy periodically.
Updates will be reflected by revising the Effective Date at the top of this page.
